The third edition of the Blue Design Summit 2026 concluded in La Spezia with record participation and a growing international profile, further confirming the event’s role as one of the leading forums dedicated to yacht design, innovation and blue lifestyle culture. Over the course of three days, the summit brought together more than 1,600 attendees, 89 speakers and 67 companies and institutions, with 16 panels focused on the future of yachting, hospitality, waterfront development and sustainable marine design.
Held under the claim “The Next Wave Now”, Blue Design Summit 2026 explored how innovation is already reshaping the nautical industry, with discussions ranging from green propulsion systems and advanced materials to residential yachting, cruising and luxury hospitality. The event once again highlighted La Spezia’s strategic role within the global yachting industry and its status as a UNESCO Creative City for Design.
During the summit, La Spezia Mayor Pierluigi Peracchini also highlighted the strategic importance of the Miglio Blu project, the development initiative designed to connect higher education, research, infrastructure and the leading companies operating within the local nautical district. Presented as a model of collaboration between industry and academia, the project has contributed to strengthening La Spezia’s position as one of the world’s leading hubs for yachting innovation and Blue Economy development.

A central moment of the summit was the presentation of “The State of Yachting – Preview 2026” by Superyacht Times intelligence director Ralph Dazert, offering an overview of the global superyacht market. The report outlined a post-pandemic stabilization phase for the industry, while confirming Italy as the leading country in superyacht construction by volume. According to the data presented, the market showed increasing demand for larger yachts above 40 metres, with growing attention toward higher gross tonnage and explorer-style vessels.
The summit also celebrated excellence across the international nautical and design sectors through the third edition of the Blue Design Awards 2026. Among the winners were prestigious brands and projects including Riva, Sanlorenzo, Azimut|Benetti, Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Nautor Swan.
Particularly relevant for THE ONE was the recognition awarded in the Best Refitting Project category, presented by Désirée Sormani, Managing Director of THE ONE Yacht & Design. The award went to FM Architettura for the refitting project M/Y Nectar, one of the standout projects celebrated during this year’s ceremony.

Another key highlight of Blue Design Summit 2026 was the launch of the new Designing for Exploration talent competition, dedicated to students in design, architecture and naval engineering. Participants were challenged to envision a low-impact explorer yacht inspired by the “Leave No Trace” philosophy, balancing luxury with environmental responsibility. The competition was won by Sara Mariani with the project My Yakamox, who also received the special Next Wave Designer award.
Throughout the event, sustainability remained a recurring theme, alongside innovation, craftsmanship and the evolving relationship between yachting and contemporary lifestyle. With its growing international reach and increasingly comprehensive programme, Blue Design Summit 2026 confirmed itself as a key observatory on the future of the global yachting industry and blue lifestyle culture.
