Confindustria Nautica reinforces its commitment to training, employment and maritime culture with project “Rotte sul futuro”

A conference on 13 April at Rome’s Porto Turistico will focus on the D1 licence and opportunities for the next generation

To mark National Sea Day in Schools, celebrated annually on 11 April, Confindustria Nautica, the Italian Marine Industry Association, renews its commitment to promoting maritime culture and the opportunities the boating sector has to offer the next generation.

The establishment of National Sea Day was strongly championed by the national industry association, which promoted its legal recognition as part of the reform process dedicated to the Recreational Boating Code, with the aim of promoting the sea as an educational, social and economic resource and introducing younger generations to its many facets.

Once again for the 2026 edition, the initiative focuses on the role the sea plays as a space for personal and professional growth, capable of offering practical pathways for training and entry into the world of professional careers.

The President of Confindustria Nautica, Piero Formenti, stated: “For us, the real challenge is to help younger generations understand the professional opportunities the sector has to offer, by actively supporting employment policies that underpin the various sectors, finding new ways to train skilled labour and promoting maritime culture. Without skills there can be no growth, and without growth there can be no leadership”.

It is within this context that “Rotte sul Futuro – Il Mare Come Scelta di VIta” (“Charting a Course for the Future – The Sea as a Way of Life”) will take place, a digital communication project promoted by Confindustria Nautica to introduce young users to the world of boating and guide their educational and career choices.

The campaign, disseminated through its main social media channels, tells authentic stories of young people and young professionals who have chosen the sea as their path in life and work: choices that go beyond just passion, honing skills, training and practical opportunities throughout the entire supply chain, from technical professions to design, from production to services. A narrative that highlights a dynamic, accessible and growing sector, still little known but rich in career prospects.

“Rotte sul Futuro” thus presents itself as a tool for guidance and inspiration, capable of engaging not only students but also families and teachers, helping to strengthen the dialogue between schools and businesses and to develop new skills for the sector.

As part of the initiatives for National Sea Day in schools, on Monday 13 April 2026, the conference Nautica: tempo libero, sport e opportunità professionali (“Boating: from leisure to sports and career opportunities”) will be held at the Library of the Porto Turistico di Roma. An event open to all and aimed particularly at educational institutions, sailing schools, training centres and anyone interested in exploring the topic of training and employment prospects for younger generations.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Italian Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport, the General Command of the Port Authorities, Confindustria Nautica, the Italian Sailing Federation, the Italian Naval League and the education sector, with a focus on the opportunities offered by the sector and, in particular, on the role of the D1 licence in introducing young people to maritime culture, safety and their first professional experiences. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss the training and career prospects for students offered by Italy’s Second Class Officer qualification.

Both of Confindustria Nautica’s initiatives form integral parts of the celebrations for this year’s National Made in Italy Day, established in 2023 by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy.

The 2026 edition is also dedicated specifically to the theme of skills and young people, recognised as a key factor for the future of the Made in Italy brand, an area on which the Italian Marine Industry Association is focusing its efforts to promote opportunities for professional growth throughout the recreational boating sector.
