MarQuip releases IMO Tier III Exhaust System for yachts under 500GT

The only system of its kind on the market; MarQuip’s system has been designed to fit into the smallest of engine rooms.

The IMO Tier III regulations regarding nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions have already taken effect for all large vessels with an engine output of 130 kW or more, and which had their keel-laying on or after 1 January 2016. The regulations specify that NOx emissions must be, at most, around 70% lower than the maximum under the Tier II regulations.

From 2021 these same regulations will come into force for all yachts above 24 metres, no matter their volume. Simply tuning the engine will not be sufficient to reduce emissions in most cases and smaller yachts create a particular challenge as smaller boats are subject to constraints of size and space.

This means a combination of technologies must be deployed instead. Where large yachts have used after-treatment units which are heavy and bulky, the smaller engine rooms on yachts under 500GT means another solution needed to be found.

MarQuip has developed the only solution custom in the industry for small yachts and the most compact system for yachts under 500GT or 50 metres. It is completely developed and ready for installation and, with MarQuip’s ISO14001:2015 certification, yacht owners can be assured it meets the highest standards of environmental management.

MarQuip has created the revolutionary system by using the available space as efficiently as possible and integrating its water-injection system inside the SCR/silencer unit to create the most-compact, custom IMO TIER III exhaust system available.

The system will be on display at this year’s METSTRADE, on stand 10.302 in Amsterdam, from 19 -21 November where owners, naval architects and designers will be able to meet the MarQuip team and see it for themselves. Meet the team on stand, or arrange a time to discuss the technology further with sales manager Daniel van Drunen at the Global Superyacht Forum during METSTRADE.
